This version is a translation of the Dutch, official “Studentenstatuut”. It informs Leiden University students (who are enrolled in an regular government funded degree programme) about what they can expect from the University and what the University expects from them.
Plagiarism is understood as presenting, intentionally or otherwise, someone else’s words, thoughts, analyses, argumentations, pictures, techniques, computer programmes, etc., as your own work.
The code of conduct is one element of the policy applied by the University in the context of providing a safe and non-discriminatory work and study environment. Further instruments employed by the University to this end include the Complaints Procedure on (Sexual) Intimidation, Aggression, Violence and Discrimination (hereafter referred to as the ‘Complaints Procedure’) and the related Code of Conduct.
This Code sets out standards for Dutch higher education institutions in their dealings with international students. By signing the Code of Conduct of the Association of Universities in the Netherlands, Leiden University offers international students a guarantee of the quality of its study programmes, student recruitment, and selection procedures.
ICT tools such as e-mail, Internet and virtual learning environments not only provide new possibilities and opportunities, but also new manners and behaviour. It is therefore necessary to establish guidelines. The current Code of Conduct primarily represents the set of expectations that both teachers and students of Leiden University are likely to have. The term e-resources is used throughout the code to refer to any type of educational information or data offered through e-mail, the learning platform Blackboard or directly on the web. Note that this code exclusively deals with online education.
