There are different support services available for International students at Leiden University.

Study Adviser

For specific questions relating to the academic content of the programme, exam regulations, courses and study scheduling (and delay) of your studies you can contact the study advisor. You can visit us in the faculty building (Matthias de Vrieshof 1, room 103C), call us or send us an email.

International Student Adviser

As an international student, you may be unfamiliar with Dutch universities and need to be pointed in the right direction when searching for help. The International Student Adviser can help you to find your way around Leiden and its University or refer you to the best contact person. Read more 

Admissions Office

The Admissions Office and Plexus can assist you if you are following a master’s degree programme taught in English.  The Admissions Office is responsible for processing all applications for admissions (Bachelor, Master, Exchange and Study Abroad). The Admissions Office applies for visa for international students. In addition, the office provides information to international students about all necessary steps to take before coming to Leiden , and ensures international students receive assistance after they arrive in the Netherlands. Student Dean

The student deans provide students with advice and help on legal and financiel issues Often, these difficulties arise in situations where many different rules and regulations apply. Together with the student, the student counsellor can analyse the situation and identify the most appropriate solution. Read more.



Student Ombuds Person

The University Ombudsperson is an independent, neutral third party who assists Leiden University students in resolving complaints and grievances through counselling and mediation. Any student at Leiden University can request the help of the Ombuds officer to investigate his/her complaint. Read more

Coaching and Counselling for International Students

Are you having difficulty settling into the new culture or experiencing stress related to adjusting your study expectations? The international student counsellor, a native English speaker, can help you with specific issues related to being an international student in the Netherlands. A few sessions with the student counsellor can often help. These sessions are free for and being a students at Leiden Universitythese are free of charge. Read more
