Troubled Discourse: Politics, Science, Ethics, and Religion in Public Debates on Genomics - Olga Crapels

The general problem under consideration is that some arguments in biotechnology related discussions are perceived as appropriate, whereas others are considered misplaced. Because of the problematic but meaningful role of these arguments in debates concerning a scientific subject like biotechnology, a better understanding of them in relation to other vocabularies (like scientific vocabularies) in moral and political discourses on issues of importance is highly desirable. The aim of the research is to integrate insights from ethical and philosophical literature and case studies into a general reflection on the interplay of ethical, religious and scientific vocabularies in shaping public discourse and public policy.
