Elizabeth den Boer studied Comparative Religion and Psychology of Religion in Leiden, and obtained her Ph.D. under guidance of Prof. Dr. AP. Borsboom of the Radboud University in Nijmegen in 2005 with a study on the transitional function of dreams of the indigenous people of Suriname and Australia. She has conducted fieldwork in Suriname, The Netherlands and India. She has been teaching at Leiden University, the Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Anton de Kom University of Suriname and the University of New Delhi. Her research and publications concern the indigenous people of Suriname and Australia, religion and dreams. Her current research is on the descendants of the British Indian contract laborers in Suriname and the Netherlands. She is particularly interested in modernity of Hinduism and Buddhism in the Netherlands and the reconstruction of pagan traditions in Europe.
