Research
The research of Maria van der Schaar concerns the philosophy of logic, including philosophy of language, and its history. The main project concerns the theory of judgement. Historically, the project goes back to Locke, who has laid the foundation of modern theories of judgement, assertion, and belief, and ends with the philosophers of the Brentano school, including the Polish philosopher K. Twardowski. Systematically, the project contributes to the philosophical foundations of mathematical constructivism through work on assertion, judgement, meaning and knowledge. (see professor Sundholm's research).
