Music, Religion and Ideology in Indonesia: The Study of Habib Syech and Jam'iyah Ahbabul Mustofa in Promoting and Preserving Traditionalist Islam Ideology against Transnational Islam

The project is to investigate the role of music especially in the case of Habib Syech and Jam'iyah Ahbabul Mustofa in using music for disseminating the traditionalist Islam ideas and culture while also attempt to tackle any infiltration of Salafi's notions to the followers of Nahdlatul Ulama.  In doing so, the group is using very soft and entertaining method in order to enlighten Muslims especially the young one who loves music and pop culture. With the method of cultural anthropology, this study aims to analyze the method of the traditionalist Islam in Indonesia in overcoming the influences of Salafi/Wahabi to the Indonesian Muslim particularly the followers or the members of Nahdlatul Ulama. To answer that question, it will focus Habib Syech who uses pop culture i.e music as means of approaching the youngsters who are delicate with salafi ideology, by promoting shawalat and maulid rituals to the Indonesian Muslims.
