Graduation procedure
ResMA students apply for their graduation by filling in a form. Below more information about: the graduation procedure, the ResMA thesis, deadlines and deregistration from Leiden University after graduation.
Application Form ResMA Exam
Students apply for their graduation by filling in the form Application Form ResMA Exam. They hand in this form – together with a copy of their bachelor’s diploma (students from abroad: passport), and a list of all their grades with a stamp from secretariat De Vrieshof – to the secretariat (De Vrieshof 4, 112).
As soon as students have applied for their graduation, the Board of Examiners checks if the programme agrees with the individual study programme that they have approved of at the start of the ResMA. After this, the secretariat will register the graduation and take care for the diploma and the diploma supplement.
Deadlines application:
1st of July (date of graduation 31 August) or 1st of December (date of graduation 31 January) of the current academic year.
ResMA Thesis
Regulations concerning the procedure surrounding the master’s thesis are determined by the faculty Humanities. The ResMA Classics and Ancient (Near Eastern) Civilisations Thesis of max. 25.000 words (1000 per ects) includes footnotes, bibliography, images and attachments.
Students are required to hand in two paper versions: one for the supervisor and one for the second advisor. Further, students send a digital version of their ResMA thesis to the secretariat for the archive.
Graduation ceremonies
The ResMA programme offers two collective graduation ceremonies, on the condition that a considerable amount of students graduate, in October (date of graduation 31 August) and March (date of graduation 31 January). Students who finish the MA programme between the 1st of June and August 15 or between the 1st of November and January 15 participate in these graduation ceremonies. It is also possible to have an individual graduation ceremony throughout the rest of the year.
N.B. Students who are not participating in the collective graduation ceremonies, can determine the date and time of their individual graduation ceremony together with their thesis supervisor/advisors and the Board of Examiners. Students should contact the secretary of the Board of Examiners if this is the case.
Deregistering from Leiden University
Dutch students who have successfully graduated and are not planning to continue their studies at Leiden University, ought to deregister themselves via Studielink. More information in Dutch. Students from abroad should drop by at the Student Affairs Information Desk at Plexus Student Centre to fill out the necessary forms.
Those students who receive their diploma in October (date of graduation 31 August), do not need to register for the next academic year. If students graduate individually, their date of graduation (and deregistration) depends on when the last requirement of the MA programme has been fulfilled. The date of graduation is not the same as the date of the ceremony. Students have to make clear agreements with the secretariat which date has to be put on the diploma.
