Reading and discussion groups

A broad range of reading and discussion groups at LUCL allows for the presentation, discussion, and exchange ideas and opinions on linguistic topics and research.

Construction Grammar Discussion Group

The Construction Grammar Discussion Group is a joint initiative of LUCL and linguists of Utrecht University. Meetings will take place every month, in Leiden or Utrecht. For more information, please check the website or contact the co-ordinator.

Romance Lab

Romance Lab is a group focusing on Romance linguistics, which will meet every two weeks at LUCL. Its structure will be as follows: we will dedicate 3 meetings to every topic (2 meetings to discuss papers and 1 meeting in which one of us gives a talk on the topic we have read and discussed. Of course we choose the topic according to the speaker's preference).

PhD discussion group

The LUCL PhD discussion group is an informal forum, where PhD students and postdocs can present current research and get feedback from peers.

Sign languages and deaf studies in Africa

The 'Sign languages and deaf studies in Africa'-group is a digital, interdisciplinary discussion group for researchers and students in Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Anthropology and related studies in Africa.

Evo*Ling

Evo*Ling is the interfacultary and informal reading and discussion group on language and evolution. The group is open to discuss any topic related to the two. The usual format is that one of the participants prepares a presentation of a paper, or other publication. Of course, presentation and discussion of own work is also possible. All who are interested are welcome.

If you are interested, please come to one of the meetings or contact either of the organizers.

PsychLing Tandem: psycholinguistics reading group

The PsychLing Tandem group provides a platform for discussion of various topics in psycholinguistics. The group aims to strengthen the diverse psycholinguistics community at Leiden and provide support for those doing research in the various subfields of psycholinguistics and related fields.

Through discussion of papers suggested by the group - e.g. results, methodologies, related studies, possible implications for further research, etc. - we hope to stimulate ideas for research, expand knowledge of (new) literature, and perhaps also help avoid potential problems (or overcome existing ones) with planned research.

Do you know of a reading or discussion group which should be included in this list? Is the information included here no longer up to date? Please send an email to the LUCL Office. Make sure to include a brief description of the group, the name of the co-ordinator at LUCL and, if available, a website address.
