Teaching activities
The structure of Trio; Languages of the Guianas; Oral traditions of the Amerindians of the Guianas.
CV
Born in Northern Ireland, studied Irish and German at Trinity College Dublin, and German language and literature at several German universities.
Degrees held: Ph.D. in Linguistics in 1993 from the University of Cologne, Germany, with a thesis on a moribund language of Uganda, “The So Language”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Sasse. B.A. (Hons) and M.A. from Trinity College Dublin in German and Irish.
Besides general linguistics, I have work experience in African linguistics, clinical neurolinguistics, and Amerindian linguistics. I have been working on the Amerindian languages of the Guianas (Cariban and Arawakan) since 1996.
