  • The analysis of language contact in the Sahel zone, esp. of Northern Songhay in contact with Tuareg.
  • Language contact between Arabic dialects and Berber languages in the Maghrib.
  • The analysis of Heiban Kordofanian (together with Prof. dr. Th. C. Schadeberg)
  • The Historical Morphology of Berber
