Robert Lowth Conference

Call for Papers: 2010 may rightly be called the Robert Lowth Year: on 27 November it will have been three hundred years since he was born "in his Father’s Prebendal house in the Close Winchester", as he himself wrote in his brief Memoirs. To celebrate this event as well as the fact that his grammar may be called the most important grammar published during the eighteenth century, the VICI research project The Codifiers and the English Language is organising a two-day symposium in Leiden, on 17 and 18 December. Plenary speaker at the symposium will be Carol Percy, from the University of Toronto. The Call for Papers is now open. Please send a one-page abstract (double spaced) before 1 May to email@robertlowth.com. Notification of acceptance will be given within six weeks of that date.
