Fields of interest

Brazilian Literature and Culture, and transatlantic exchange in literature and film.


Modern Brazilian literature and film: constructions of national and transnational identities; relationship between literature/film and history. Current research projects centre on Brazilian Modernism and Literary and Filmic travel/diasporic narratives (Brazilian and Luso-African); contemporary diasporic women writing; the Brazilian road movie.

Teaching activities

Portuguese language; Brazilian literature, film and cultural studies.

Curriculum vitae

Dr. Brandellero holds a BA in Hispanic Studies from the University of Cardiff, an MA in Brazilian Literature from the University of Brasilia and a DPhil in Portuguese (Brazilian Literature) from the University of Oxford. She held lectureships at the University of Oxford and University of Leeds (UK), before joining the University of Leiden in September 2011.
