Research
My main research area is the structure of Turkish. More in particular, the constructions I focus on are those which do not get much attention or even no attention at all in the literature on Turkish grammar. On such topic is the structure of nominal compounds – not only the question how these derivations are formed is an issue, but also an explanation for their complexity and for their immense success as a construction type is provided for in a series of publications (1992, 1999, 2002). Another topic of interest is complementation: what are the structural (lexical, syntactic) factors that determine the choice between several types of suffix that occur in embedded verbs? The details are discussed in the publications of 1998 and 2012. Apart form pure linguistic research I always had a strong interest in educational aspects of studies on Turkish grammar. This has resulted in a series of books ranging from beginners to professionals.
