Fields of interest
Literature, Linguistics, Indian and Surinamese Culture.
Research
The analysis of modern Hindi prose and drama through research methods such as narratology or reception theory, in order to reach an argued interpretation of a text but also to evaluate the way literary and linguistic means have been used for reaching a specific effect.

Relevant training
Study of Indo-Iranian languages and cultures at Utrecht University,where PhD obtained (1978)with a study of Hybrid Sanskrit in early Indian inscriptions.
Professional experience
Since 1975, teaching Hindi language and literature at Utrecht University, Aarhus University, and (since 1992) Leiden University.
Teaching activities
