Fields of interest

My interests include the art and material culture of Ancient Egypt, mainly of the periods known as the New Kingdom and the Late Period (between 1550 and 350 BC), but also the exciting crossroads of iconography, magic and symbolism. Because I have the privilege to work in one of the best public collections of Egyptian art in the world, I am also much interested in the perception of Ancient Egyptian civilization by our own culture, in the rediscovery of the world of the Pharaohs, and in that continuous undercurrent of western culture which is often called Egyptomania. There are various ways for me to experience this fascination and to share it with others: excavating in Egypt, making exhibitions, publishing and teaching.
