course description
Other subjects are dealt with and other course materials are used in the September and February English 6 course. By doing this, we ensure that you can practise and improve your English skills at this level for a whole year.
This is a practical English course at a highly advanced level, designed to meet the needs of adults who wish to improve their communication skills and their overall command of the language for work, study, and in social situations. It also provides an enjoyable yet fairly intensive preparation for the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) exam. This certificate is recognised by most British universities and higher education institutions. The Cambridge exams can only be entered through an authorised Cambridge ESOL centre (English for Speakers of Other Languages). A list of authorised centres and the 2004 examination time-tables can be obtained from the Cambridge ESOL website: www.CambridgeESOL.org.
By doing exercises at home and in class your vocabulary will be greatly expanded. Specific grammar exercises will be studied at home and discussed in class.
As this is a practical course rather than a theoretical one, you will frequently be working in pairs and groups, and there will be a lot of interaction between you and the teacher in open-class discussions and other fluency tasks. Standard English pronunciation is practised open class and individually with the help of exercises on tape. The course material makes learning enjoyable, with thought-provoking texts and motivating practice activities, including interviewing, role-playing, participating in group discussions, and doing watching-and-listening exercises based on clips from films or recent television programmes. The course is presented in the same format that students will meet in the Cambridge examinations. Only English is spoken during the lessons.
At the end of this course you will have improved your communication skills and overall command of the language at this level, and be ready for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) exam.
The course is concluded with a vocabulary and grammar test. Within the Practical English series this course is at level C2 of the Common European Framework.
