level and admission
This course is open to MA students of Leiden University or BA students who have succesfully completed one of the following courses: English for Academic Purposes for BA Students, English 5, English 6. Legal English for Bachelors. If you have done other courses, please contact the Academic Language Centre to check if they offer admission to this course.
The language of instruction is English. Participants are expected to have English language skills at level C1 or higher in terms of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. To check your level, please do the entrance test.

course description
During this short, six-week course the focus will be placed on items such as register, structure, clarity, coherence, cohesion and the use of MLA and APA style and referencing. In addition, some practical grammar will be part of the curriculum. Students will be asked to bring writing assignments to class in order to be peer-reviewed. Students will also receive individual feedback from their tutor. With the help of a toolbox and the creation of a learner diary students will learn to enhance their self-sufficiency. Assessment will take place during the course and is primarily based on the acquisition of language skills.
