About Friends of the Institute
- Activities
- About five times a year, the members of the Association are invited to participate in activities in the field of Indology. These can be lectures by Dutch or foreign scholars, book presentations, video presentations, or excursions. Once in two years, the Association organises a day-long programme of lectures about an Indological theme. Tradition prescribes that these activities are followed by drinks for informal contact.
- Newsletter
- Twice a year, the members receive a Newsletter (mainly in Dutch), with news about activities by the Association, recent publications by the Kern Institute, and other interesting features such as book and film reviews.
- Collection
- The Association possesses a collection of objects, and takes care of its management and restoration. Among these objects, most noteworthy are the “Gandhara album”, which contains a number of albumin prints dating from before 1885, some 80.000 pictures as well as a number of palmleaf manuscripts. The photographs can be consulted through a database in the library of the Kern Institute,. Moreover, the Association provides financial support for the upkeep of the Indological collections of the Kern Institute library.
- "Fonds de Cock"
- A special fund (“Fonds de Cock”) supports the student-members of the Association who wish to make a journey abroad to do Indological research. Written applications can be addressed too the Board of the Association.

The annual fee is 20 euro per calendar year for ordinary members, while student-members pay a fee of 10 euro. Fees can be paid through the bank account of the Association:
