17th century Dutch and Flemish paintings, prints and drawings

Research

My dissertation, 'Politics, Punishment, and Prestige: Images of Seventeenth-Century Dutch Republicans', will explore the rise and fall of the Republican political faction via images made of and for them. These images include prints of public executions, militia company paintings, and portraits of party members and their families. The dissertation will address the role of these images in challenging, gaining, and asserting political power and social prestige in the Dutch Republic.

My research is made possible by a Kress Foundation Fellowship in the History of Art at a Foreign Institution, in association with the Kunsthistorisch Instituut der Rijksuniversiteit, Leiden University (2011-2013) as well as funds from The Graduate School at Northwestern University.

Teaching activities

2008-2010: Teaching Assistant at Northwestern University for the following courses: 'Yuan and Ming Dynasty Chinese Painting', 'Introduction to Asian Art', 'Introduction to European Art' and 'Introduction to Modern Art'.

2007-2008: Instructor at the University of Kansas for 'Introduction to Art History'

2005-2007: Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas for the following courses: 'Italian Renaissance Art', 'Ancient to Medieval Art' and 'Architectural History'
