Research
My research comprises the field of French Literature from approximately 1850 to the present day, with emphasis on the period after 1945.
Research questions:
Literary criticism and literary theory, in their interaction with philosophical and aesthetic issues, including the works of Maurice Blanchot, Jean Paulhan, Georges Bataille.
Modernism and the question of literary creativity, particularly in the works of Marcel Proust. The memory of WWII and the Holocaust in French and French-Jewish literature.
The theme of the metropolis, Paris in particular, and its place in French literature from Baudelaire and Zola to the present day.
Curriculum Vitae
Annelies Schulte Nordholt studied French and Philosophy in Paris and Amsterdam. Doctoral degree in French and Philosophy from the University of Amsterdam. Assistant researcher (OIO) at the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO. Doctorate cum laude at the University of Amsterdam on Maurice Blanchot (1993). Postdoc (NWO) and KNAW fellow at Leiden University.
