Research

The concept of national identity was often a crucial point evoking broad discussions in Lithuania as a consequence of consecutive occupations, movements of liberation and independence of the country. Every historical period had it's own context which presented various opinions regarding the future direction the nation should choose. Reception of foreign ideas and their expression in national culture appears to be of significant importance when understanding and defining national identity of a specific nation. Lithuania is one of the most Francophonic countries in the Baltic region. The main questions to be answered are the following: what are the reasons of this phenomena and how French culture and literature influenced the concept of Lithuanian national identity?
