Workshop 'Epistemic Virtues in the Sciences and the Humanities'

To what extent can the nineteenth-century division line between 'alpha' and 'beta' be maintained if we study the sciences and humanities through the prism of epistemic virtues? This is the key question for a workshop on August 27-28, 2015 at Utrecht University, organized by Jeroen van Dongen (Utrecht University / University of Amsterdam) and Herman Paul (Leiden University).


Scholarly personae: lecture on December 2

On Tuesday December 2, Michael Facius, an ERASMUS visiting scholar from the Free University in Berlin, will give a public lecture on “Shigeno Yasutsugu and the transformation of Chinese knowledge in 19th century Japan through the lens of the scholarly persona.”


The persona of the historian

On November 28, 2014, the Royal Netherlands Historical Association (KNHG) will devote its annual autum conference to the persona of the historian.


The Making of the Humanities

The entire research team will travel to Rome to present “The Scholarly Self” project at the Fourth Conference on the History of the Humanities on October 16, 2014.
