Research

Pieter is currently working as a PhD-researcher on the ERC-funded project, 'An empire of 2000 cities: urban networks and economic integration in the Roman Empire', directed by Prof. Luuk de Ligt and Prof. John Bintliff. For this project he is examining the theme of urbanism in Hispania.

Curriculum vitae

Pieter Houten (Eijsden, 1984) holds a bachelor degree in History with a minor in Ancient Culture and a Research Master degree in Ancient Studies from Utrecht University. As part of the research-master he spent a semester at Universidad Complutense de Madrid to study the Celtiberian urbanization in pre-Roman and Roman times with Prof. Martín Almagro-Gorbea. A Philologisch Studiefonds travel grant created the possibility to visit different Celtiberian sites, such as Numantia, Termes, Clunia and many more.

Since August 2013 Pieter is a PhD-candidate at the Faculty of History at Leiden University.
