Curriculum vitae
Jorrit van den Berk was born in Venray in 1981 and grew up in the picturesque town of Vierlingsbeek. He studied (American) history at the University of Leiden where he graduated cum laude in December 2004. His thesis “Caudillos. The Eisenhower government and the dictators of Central America and the Caribbean, 1952-1961” was nominated for the Theodore Roosevelt American History Award 2005.

In the first semester of 2005, Jorrit participated in the “Fifth Academic Year”-exchange program between Leiden University and Ohio State University.

As of September 1, 2006, Jorrit is working on his PhD-thesis, “Close encounters with the caudillos. American diplomats meet political bosses in Central America, 1933-1952”, at Leiden University.
