Brazilian Slave Memoir

Brazil's only slave memoir, that of Mahommah Gardo Baquaqua, will be published in Portuguese for the first time.

Liberated by abolitionists, Baquaqua was smuggled first to Haïti, then the US, and finally to Canada, where he dictated his experiences to abolitionist Samuel Moore in 1854. Click here for more information. For the English version of Baquaqua's memoir, click here.
