22 and 23 Oct. - Workshop 'Understanding Political History in and beyond the Nation State'

On Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October the Political History PhD Network will welcome 33 participants from all over Europe - including universities such as Sciences Po, University of Fribourg, University of Basque Country, Oxford, Harvard, Bath Spa University, Bielefeld University, University of Copenhagen and University of Rome for the workshop 'Understanding Political History in and beyond the Nation State' at Leiden University.

Political history is still predominantly studied within national contexts. By crossing borders, while keeping specific national cases in mind, this workshop identifies distinct developments and mutual experiences of political life in Europe throughout the 19th and 20th century. This workshop aims to analyse the relationship between political communities and their authorities to further our understanding of the formation of the modern democratic state.
