International Conference: The EU and the Media 8-10 October 2009 (preliminary program)

On October 8, 9 & 10, 2009 the MA European Union Studies, together with our partners, the Montesquieu Institute and Campus Den Haag, will organize an international conference on The European Union and the Media . The European Union claims that it is often ignored by the press or, misinterpreted for national political ends. Well, with the elections to the European Parliament looming, if it cannot get press coverage now, it really has got problems. With this in mind, the conference will address relevant aspects of the European Union and its relation with its citizens through the use of the media.

We have put together a comprehensive program with a diverse and broad spectrum of speakers, coming from all parts of the European Union and representing the different points of view and attitudes towards the EU.

The conference will be interesting and informative but also interactive – several current MA-EUS students will present their own findings during the conference. For prospective MA-EUS students we will provide the possibility of conducting their own research as well, allowing them to relate to the conference and the topic in a more profound way. Moreover, students are invited to join and participate in discussions and debates.

We believe that the interaction between students, scholars, professionals and representatives from the European Union will make this conference relevant, interesting & exciting.
