Admission requirements and procedure

Admission requirements Pre-Master EU Studies

In order to be admitted to the pre-master EU Studies, you need to have a relevant Bachelor degree or an equivalent. Students with a professional education (HBO) particular in the areas of Economy and business; Law, policy and management or EU-studies and International Relation Studies may also apply for the pre-master’s programme. Students of certain HBO’s in the Hague may follow the pre-master programme as an integral part of their study (see the relevant HBO for more info).

The admission committee of the Master EU-Studies decides whether your education is sufficient to gain access to the pre-master EU- Studies. Admission to the pre-master is a conditional admission to the Master. Therefore the admission procedure to the pre-master is equivalent to the admission procedure to the master.

Admission procedure

Students fulfilling the requirements above may apply online via the online application form (in English). The admission committee decides on admission. Admission to the pre-master implies admission to the Master EU Studies on the condition of completion of the pre-master EU studies. As soon as the pre-master is completed, students should ask at the secretariat EUS (Huizinga/001) for a statement of participation. The Student desk requires this statement in order to enroll students for the Master.

A student that has been admitted to the pre-master, will receive a pre-master enrollment package from the Admissions Office. As indicated in that enrollment package, factual enrollment for the pre-master EU Studies is done by registration as a (Bachelor) student of History, since the EU-Studies programme is part of the Institute of History.

Tuition fee

Students within the European Union pay the annual tuition fee of Bachelor students (EURO 1713 for academic year 2011/2012).

Students from outside the European Union pay the annual tuition for non-EU Bacholor students (EURO 14.650 for 2011/2012). No grants are available from Leiden University.

From Pre-Master to Master admission

Admission to the Pre-Master is a conditional admission to the Master. The condition being that the Pre-Master needs to be completed successfully. What does successful mean? It means a target grade of at least 7 (out of 10) in all the courses. Once the pre-master has been successfully completed, students should ask at the secretariat EUS (Huizinga/001) for a statement of participation and grades. The Student desk requires this statement in order to enroll students for the Master. The admission committee of the master informs the Admission Office. The Admission office then sends the student an enrollment package for the Master. This includes a registration form for the upcoming academic year. During the Master, the ordinary tuition fees apply.
