Sophie Ernst (1972) trained as an industrial mechanic with BMW before graduating from the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam in 2000. In her artistic work she has, over the last ten years, investigated the notion of projection in relation to architecture, memory, culture, historical objects, urban spaces and identity. In 2009 she showed the video installation HOME at the 9th Sharjah Biennial. The same year, HOME was awarded the Golden Cube Award at the 26th Kassel Dokfest for best installation. The project was exhibited at the Johnson Museum, Cornell University and as a solo exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. For this occasion the YSP publishes the book “HOME: Architecture of Memory -Sophie Ernst” (2012).
