Janneke Wesseling

On 11 and 12 November, PhDArts co-director Janneke Wesseling will give a lecture entitled ‘Kunst & Kritiek’ about looking at and writing about the visual arts, based on her recent publication De Volmaakte Beschouwer (2015) . The lecture is part of the KunstNU series, a six-part crash course on contemporary art that is a collaboration between Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art and De Appel arts centre.

This fall semester, Janneke Wesseling is also giving a series of lectures and workshops, Writing Art, in an Honours Class organized by the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts and the Honours Programme of Leiden University in collaboration with the Lectorate Art Theory & Practice of Janneke Wesseling at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In the course, students experiment with different approaches to ‘Writing Art’.


Lilo Nein

PhDArts researcher Lilo Nein will perform in the context of the exhibition What is Left? curated by Walter Seidl and Gülsen Bal. The event takes place at Künstlerhaus Wien and is part of the Vienna Art Week.

Danne Ojeda

BASIC OBJECT OF KNOWLEDGE [B.O.O.K.]: THE CONTEMPORARY BOOK AND ITS MODEL, an exhibition-installation curated and designed by PhDArts researcher Danne Ojeda as part of her doctoral trajectory, has been awarded the international Red Dot Award Communication Design 2015.

Bobby Mitchell

docARTES researcher Bobby Mitchell will be performing music for piano and cello by L.V. Beethoven and Robert Schumann with Charles-Antoine Duflot in the concert series Kammermusik um halb acht.

Ato Malinda

Drawings of PhDArts researcher Ato Malinda will be featured in the exhibition FAVT: Future Africa Visions in Time, presented by the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies and Iwalewahaus.

Jonas Staal

PhDArts researcher Jonas Staal was interviewed for Metropolis M, about his New World Summit endeavour in northern Syria. The interview can be read on the website of Metropolis M.


Henri Bok

ACPA researcher Henri Bok will be guest of honour at three different events in Brazil during the month of November, with masterclasses at the University of São Paolo, focusing on the expansion of contemporary playing techniques, and masterclasses, concerts, and a lecture-demonstration, entitled Harmonic D ’n A: the integration and practice of overtones in contemporary bass clarinet performance, at the 2nd Brazilian Bass Clarinet Meeting, Northeast Region in Maceió, and at the Rio de Janeiro Clarinet Festival.

Donna Agrell

docARTES researcher Donna Agrell will give two presentations at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis: Early Nineteenth-Century Bassoon Repertoire from Sweden and The ‘Vichy’ Grenser: a rare instrument from ca 1800.


Giuliano Bracci

Two pieces of docARTES researcher Giuliano Bracci will premiere this November. The piece Solo, for voice will be sung by Cora Schmeiser at November Music in Den Bosch as part of Vox Sanguinis. Ensemble L'Arsenale will premiere the piece Assetata ancora for voice and ensemble at Nuova Musica a Treviso.


Brigitte Kovacs

PhDArts researcher Brigitte Kovacs is participating in the Exhibition NO WALLS Part 1, at Friday Exit in Vienna.
